How to Build a MagPod Mini Magnetic Bluetooth Speaker – DIY 3D Printing Project

Share

Build your own compact, rechargeable, and magnetic Bluetooth speaker using 3D printing and simple electronic components! πŸ”ŠπŸ§²

Meet MagPod, a mini wireless Bluetooth speaker that combines a compact 3D-printed design, magnetic attachment, rechargeable battery power, and True Wireless Stereo (TWS) functionality.

In this DIY project, I’ll guide you through the complete building process, from 3D printing the enclosure and embedding magnets during printing to wiring the electronics, installing the speaker and battery, and testing the finished device.

Thanks to its built-in magnets, MagPod can attach to suitable metal surfaces and compatible magnetic phone mounts, making it a fun and practical portable audio accessory.

You can use one MagPod independently or pair two compatible modules to enjoy left and right stereo sound!

Main Features

  • Compact 3D-Printed Design: Small, lightweight enclosure designed for portable use.
  • Magnetic Attachment: Built-in neodymium magnets allow mounting on suitable metal surfaces.
  • Bluetooth 5.4 Connectivity: Wireless audio playback using a Bluetooth 5.4 amplifier module.
  • TWS Stereo Pairing: Pair two compatible MagPod speakers for separate left and right audio channels.
  • Rechargeable Battery: Powered by a 3.7V lithium-polymer battery.
  • 5W Amplifier Module: Uses a compact Bluetooth amplifier board rated for up to 5W.
  • Mini Speaker Driver: Features a 27 mm, 4Ξ©, 3W speaker.
  • Embedded Magnets: Magnets are installed during the 3D printing process.
  • Customizable Design: Experiment with different filament colors to create your own version.

How Does the MagPod Bluetooth Speaker Work?

The MagPod uses a Bluetooth 5.4 audio amplifier module to receive wireless audio signals from a compatible phone, tablet, or computer.

The amplifier drives a compact 27 mm speaker, while a rechargeable 3.7V LiPo battery provides portable power.

The electronics are installed inside a custom-designed 3D-printed enclosure, with neodymium magnets integrated into the housing.

Magnetic Mounting

The embedded magnets allow the speaker to attach to suitable ferromagnetic surfaces.

They also make it compatible with certain magnetic phone mounts, depending on the mounting system and magnetic holding strength.

True Wireless Stereo (TWS)

One of the most exciting features is TWS functionality.

A single MagPod works as an independent Bluetooth speaker. When two compatible MagPod modules are paired together in TWS mode, they can reproduce separate left and right audio channels for a stereo listening experience.

Rechargeable Battery Setup

For this project, I reused a 3.7V lithium battery recovered from a disposable vape.

I also created a separate video covering battery recovery and preparation for DIY electronics projects.

Watch the Battery Recovery Video:

Battery Safety: Reused lithium batteries may have hidden damage or degraded capacity. Never use swollen, punctured, overheated, or otherwise damaged cells. Use a suitable charging and protection circuit, and ensure all connections are properly insulated. A new, protected rechargeable battery is recommended for beginners.

Why Build Your Own MagPod?

MagPod is a fun combination of 3D printing, wireless audio, compact electronics, and creative product design.

Its magnetic enclosure makes it different from ordinary DIY Bluetooth speakers, while TWS support lets you expand from a single compact speaker to a two-speaker stereo setup.

It’s a great project for makers interested in portable electronics, custom enclosures, and Bluetooth audio technology.
